Romba, age 91, of Merrillville, Indiana passed away peacefully on March 27, 2015 at St. Anthony Hospice in Crown Point, Indiana with his loving family at his side. Alex was born October 14, 1923 in Knowlton, Wisconsin to the late Frank and Anna (nee Gorska) Romba. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Virginia "Jean" Sulkowski on November 2, 1946 at St. Salomea in Chicago, Illinois. Romba, age 91, of Merrillville, Indiana passed away peacefully on March 27, 2015 at St. Anthony Hospice in Crown Point, Indiana with his loving family at his side. Alex was born October 14, 1923 in Knowlton, Wisconsin to the late Frank and Anna (nee Gorska) Romba. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Virginia "Jean" Sulkowski on November 2, 1946 at St. Salomea in Chicago, Illinois. Preceding him in death were his parents; and six older siblings: Aloysius, Agnes, Adeline, Albin, Adolph and Anne. Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Jean, and their children: Michael (Kim) Romba, Sandra (Late John) Flatt, Greg (Debbie) Romba, and Gerald Romba; grandchildren Amanda (Max) Knoell, Cari (Jonathan) Miller, Misty (Bill) Scheuneman, Rachael Romba, Nicole Romba, John (Shelia) Flatt, Susan (Andy) Burdine, and Christopher Santacaterina; and great- grandchildren: Nathan, Olivia, Spencer, Violette, Gabriella, Hadassah, Ethan, Skyler, Ryland, James, Jonathan, Colton, and Addison. He also leaves behind a sister, Albina Derkacy. Mr. Romba was an owner and operator of Romba Brothers music school for over 20 years, he then retired from Sears after 20 years of service. Alex selflessly served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a talented musician and played in various bands at many local venues. He loved entertaining people through song and laughter. He was loved for his witty charm and sense of humor. He taught his family through example, especially kindness and compassion towards others. Mr. Romba was a 4th Degree Knight in the Good Shepherd Council Abraham Lincoln Assembly, and he and his wife were faithful members of Our Lady of Consolation parish. A mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Consolation (8303 Taft St.; Merrillville, Indiana 46410) with Rev. Peter Muha officiating. Visitation will be Monday, March 30, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 S. Cline Ave.; Schererville, Indiana 46375) and again at 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at the Church on Tuesday. Burial will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
